What is the CARES Act
The CARES Act, also known as the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act was signed into law to assist as emergency funds for college students impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. The CARES Act provides nearly $14 billion to support postsecondary education students and institutions. The Secretary has also provided student loan relief to tens of millions of borrowers.
How can I apply?
Each institution is allocated federal funding and may administer the awarding allocation based on their own institutional policy with guidance from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. Students may apply through an application process or receive funds based on displayed financial need determined by their current 2019-2020 FAFSA. Contact your college for details on their CARES application process.
